Handmade birthday cards

Buying birthday cards for all of your family members can get expensive. With the correct materials and a little creativity, you can make your own cards. This can also be an activity you do with your children, and people love the idea that you took the time to personally make them a card. These birthday cards can be made totally by hand, or you can use your computer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Newspaper Card stock Scissors Letter stencils Crayons Markers Optional: Glue Glitter Cotton swab Computer
  1. Step 1

Place newspaper on your table to protect it from glue and glitter.

  2. Step 2

Collect all your supplies needed in a place that is accessible.

  3. Step 3

Choose a piece of card stock that you want to work with. Card stock comes in all colors, so pick an appropriate color.

  4. Step 4

Fold and or cut the card stock to the size of card you desire.

  5. Step 5

Take a letter stencil and lay it on the front of the card and trace the letters you want.

  6. Step 6

Color in your letters with crayons or markers, or get creative and use glitter. To use glitter, put a line of glue inside a letter and spread it around using a cotton swab, and then sprinkle glitter onto the glue. Tip the excess glitter off onto your newspaper. Continue this until all letters are filled in with glitter.

  7. Step 7

Open the card and on the right side write a little poem or comment about the person you are making the card for. You can also just write something about birthdays in general, or log onto your computer and print a poem or a saying and glue it into the middle of the card.

  8. Step 8

Close the card and turn it so the back of the card is facing up. Write "Handmade by ______," putting your name in the blank.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are going to use glue and glitter on the front of the card, you may want to do this step last to prevent the glitter from being rubbed off. You can also print a few pictures or use scrapbooking items and glue them on the front or inside of the card.
  • If you use glue and glitter, allow drying time.
