Dance Steps for the Jitterbug
The jitterbug is one of the popular dances that came out of the early twentieth century and refers to a variety of swing dances such as the jive, the Lindy hop and the West Coast swing. The term jitterbug can also refer to someone who is letting loose while dancing--i.e., has the "jitters."

Face your partner. The man and woman can face each other in an open or closed dance position.

Step to the left side with the left foot if you are the woman. Step to the right side with the right foot if you are the man. This step is done in slow step, or with one beat of music.

Step in place. This applies to both partners. The woman will step with her right foot and the man will step with his left foot. This is also done in slow step.

Step back in the back of the right heel with the left foot if you are the woman. Use the right foot and heel if you are the man. This action is done in quick step, or in two beats of music.

Step in place in quick step. The woman uses her right foot, while the man uses his left foot.

Repeat the steps for the duration of the song to properly dance the jitterbug.
