How to Deal With People Calling During Dinnertime
It can be quite annoying when you're sitting down enjoying a nice dinner and the phone rings. Most people know that calling someone between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. can entail interrupting their dinnertime, but some aren't aware or simply ignore it. There are easy ways to deal with people calling during dinnertime that can help you to have an uninterrupted meal.

Sign up with the National Do Not Call Registry. (See Resources.) It will give you the option to no longer receive calls from telemarketers. Once you are on the list, salespeople are not allowed to call and can be reported if they do. Many telemarketers love calling during dinnertime because they know it is when they are most likely to reach someone.

Turn of the ringers on phones in your home. Should someone need you, he can call on your cell phone and leave a message. If the ringers are off, you won't have to hear them when you're trying to enjoy dinner. Just remember to turn them back on after you finish eating.

Instead of ignoring the phone call, answer the phone and tell the person you're eating dinner and will call her back later on. Simply explain that you usually eat around that time. Most people will pick up on the hint to not call during those hours so you can enjoy your meals in peace.

Send out an email to loved ones asking them to not call you during that time. This presents your request without embarrassing anyone that may have done so in the past. In addition, an email gets the word out to many people at the same time without having to address each person individually. Ask kindly, and explain that you would like a bit of time to enjoy dinner with your family and focus only on each other.

Call the person during his dinnertime. Sometimes you don't even have to say a word in order to get a point across. If you call the person once or twice when you know he is having dinner, he will probably get annoyed enough to realize that he doesn't like it. You're most likely not going to get a call from him again while you're having dinner after he realizes how disrupting it can be.
