Laying Fiberglass
Fiberglass is the best type of insulation in a home. It will help regulate temperature by keeping it warmer during the Winter and cooler during the Summer. Fiberglass insulation comes in sheets and rolls. The roll is best to use for ceilings and sheets are best for walls. It appears to be pink or yellow and puffy like cotton candy. how to lay fiberglass

1
Put on protective gear before starting. This is important since fiberglass can irritate the skin. Put on a shirt with long sleeves and pants, rubber boots, goggles, face mask, and gloves. Pull hair back if long. Use clothing that you can throw away after the work is done.
-
2
Measure the area in which the fiberglass will be laid. Then roll out the insulation if working with the ceiling or open up the wrapped stacked sheets of insulation. Cut the fiberglass a 1/2" longer and wider than the necessary fit. This will help when fitting between studs in the wall or ceiling. Put the remaining fiberglass outside and out of the way.

3
Lay the fiberglass. The wall will have segments between each stud. Be sure the insulation is evenly placed in the area of the wall from top to bottom. Once there are no gaps, press the fiberglass into the wall. There should be extra insulation when approaching the stud that is in the wall. Use the staple gun to staple the fiberglass into the wood of the wall which will stabilize it. Get the next sheet to do the same with the next section of the wall. For the ceiling, the fiberglass will be rolled out. If the fiberglass you have has a silver lining on one side then place that side down first. Fit it between studs and rafters by pushing down on the insulation then stapling it into the wood.

4
Put on polyethylene sheeting. Once the fiberglass is laid out then this is put on top of it to add more protection from moisture. It is a plastic type covering that is used more commonly in ceilings rather than walls.
-
5
Secure the sheeting with packing tape. You can place the tape from stud to stud to make sure the polyethylene sheeting will not move. One strip of tape across the top, middle, and bottom will be enough.
-
6
Wash tools. Once the fiberglass is laid it is important to wash the knife used to cut and the staple gun to make sure no fibers are left on them. Fibers from fiberglass are easily transmitted so it is best to take precautions by washing the tools.

Tips & Warnings
Do not shove fiberglass into the studs of the house since it could lose its effectiveness. When laying fiberglass insulation around piping, peel fiberglass apart to have half the thickness in the back and front of it.
Keep all protective gear on until finished laying the fiberglass. Wash your hands to make sure fiberglass doesn't enter your eyes since it could cause infection.
