Gypsy Vanners, sometimes known as Gypsy Cobs, are a fairly new breed to be recognized by the horse world. It is possible to register a Gypsy Vanner for showing or breeding purposes through several different breed registries, all run by groups that are committed to this particular breed of horse. Registering a Gypsy Vanner makes it eligible for certain breed-specific prizes at shows and also allows it to be bred with other Gypsy Vanners.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a computer to perform a search for "Gypsy Vanner breed registries" via the Internet. Several options, including the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society, the Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Association and the Gypsy Horse Registry of America, will be presented.

  2. Step 2

Research the different associations before deciding which one to register the Gypsy Vanner with. Weigh options based on geographic locations and local preferences. Consult with showing and breeding experts in the area to find out which associations are preferred. This step could save the owner the pain and trouble of having to re-register the horse later.

  3. Step 3

Fill out an application form with the chosen association. Information needed will include the horse's full name, lineage, color, height, date of birth and markings. Photographs of the horse and a DNA test may also be required to ensure that the horse is purebred, and the association may require a fee upfront. Send all application materials and required fees to the association.

  4. Step 4

Wait for a response. Validating the application can take several months, depending on how far away the association is from the horse and where the application is on the waiting list. If the application is approved, the owner should received a certificate stating that the horse is registered. This certificate will allow the owner to breed and show the horse as a Gypsy Vanner, so it is important to hang onto it.
