How to Take a Picture of a Single Window on a Mac

With the Grab utility program, which is included with all new Mac computers, Mac users can capture a picture of an item on their screen and then save the image file for future use. In addition to taking a screenshot of an entire Mac desktop, users can take pictures of individual windows in which they may be working.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.4 or later
  1. Step 1

    Open the window you wish you take a picture of using the necessary application.

  2. Step 2

    Open a new Finder window by clicking on the icon in the dock.

  3. Step 3

    Navigate to the "Utilities" folder, which can be found in the "Applications" section of the Mac hard drive.

  4. Step 4

    Double-click on the "Grab" icon to open the screen-capturing program.

  5. Step 5

    Go to the "Capture" menu in the top menu bar and select "Window."

  6. Step 6

    Click "Choose Window" in the pop-up box and then click your cursor anywhere within the window you want to capture. The image will be recorded and saved to your desktop.
