No matter where you go in the world, you'll most likely stumble upon a variation of poker. This version of Pho Kao Poker harkens from China, and is played for cash much like our American version. You can play as many rounds as you like, shifting dealers around the table until everyone has had a chance. This game is best suited for 2 to 7 players.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of cards Poker chips
  1. Step 1

Ante a set number of chips into the pot. Dealer must cover each player's ante in Pho Kao.

  2. Step 2

Deal out seven cards to each player, starting with the person to the left of the dealer and moving around the table in a clockwise direction. The dealer does not look at his hand.

  3. Step 3

Separate your hand into two hands--a two card and five card hand--using the principles of poker. Royal flush beating straight flush, straight flush beating four of a kind, four of a kind beating a full house, full house beating a flush, a flush beating a straight, a straight beating a three of a kind, a three of a kind beating two pairs, two pairs beating a pair and a pair beating a single. You want to create the best possible five-card hand with the seven cards, yet still create a decent two-card hand.

  4. Step 4

Place both hands in front of you. Once everyone at the table has ordered and separated their hands, the next phase of the game may begin.

  5. Step 5

Reveal your cards by turning both hands over. At the same time, the dealer will reveal his hand (all seven cards) and separate it based on your cards. You and the dealer will be "competing" for the best hands in Pho Kao Poker.

  6. Step 6

Compare your hands with the dealer's hands. If both of your hands beat the dealer's hands, you win your stake plus that amount. If only one of your hands wins, your stake remains in the pot. If the dealer wins both, he takes your stake plus the amount from the pot.

  7. Step 7

Shift deal to the next player at the table to the dealer's left.

Tips & Warnings
  • To determine first dealer of Pho Kao Poker, have each player cut the deck. Highest cut acts as first player so the person to his right will be the first dealer.
