Step 1
Check with schools or colleges. Schools often throw out or give away old computer systems when they are upgrading. You can usually get one of these computers for very littler or for free.
-
Step 2
Browse garage sales and thrift shops. Every now and then somebody is going to sell a used computer. Read the newspapers to check garage sales that may be selling computers.
-
Step 3
Bid on eBay. Since some computers from eBay may need repairs or certain parts, be sure to read the descriptions very carefully so that you know what you will be purchasing. Also read the ads on craigslist.com (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Apply for small business grants or loans if you need a computer for your business start-up. If you need a system, but can't afford one, there are often grants or loans that you can use to get a computer for your new business. Check with your local bank for information about loans.
-
Step 5
Shop after-Christmas sales. Many items go on sale right after the holidays to attract after-holiday shopping. Electronics often can be purchased cheaper than before the holiday season. Be sure to keep up with any store closing or liquidation sales too. Many businesses will mark down their products by half when preparing to close.
