Things You'll Need:
- 4 feet of 1-inch wide steel pipe or "steel tubing" Blow torch Benders Welder 1/4" sheet metal
-
Step 1
Mark off an 8-inch section in the middle of a 4-foot length of 1 inch wide steel pipe.
-
Step 2
Bend the pipe into a horseshoe shape, using metal benders, leaving the 8-inch section as the bottom of the "U."
-
Step 3
Make two more marks on the pipe about 24 inches from the corners of the "U" shape. Then bend the pipes upwards and back at both ends towards the corners of the "U" shape. These are the "arms" of the motorcycle stand and they extend vertically when the stand is laid on the ground.
-
Step 4
Slide the stand under the bike and make sure both arms fit under the rear fork and are close enough together to intersect.
-
Step 5
Cut the excess from the ends of these two arms. Each one should be about 4 inches higher than the bottom of your rear forks, to lift the bike off the ground.
-
Step 6
Cut two 2-inch by 4-inch metal plates that are at least 1/4 inch thick from your sheet metal using a regular metal saw. Then weld them to the tops of the stand arms with a gas arc welder. These are the plates that the rear forks will sit on.
-
Step 7
Cut and shape the end of one left over section of the steel pipe so it fits on the back edge of the "U" shape you formed in Step 2. Arc the end of the pipe so it fits around the pipe frame, and weld it to the "U" at an angle. This is the handle of the stand which you will use to jack up the bike.
-
Step 8
Grasp the handle you just welded on in Step 6 and tilt the stand forward, then slide it under the bike, lower the handle until the two plates contact the rear forks, then push on the handle to prop up the bike until it is on the stand.
