Measure a Tennis Racket

The tennis racket includes the handle of the racket and the racket head. The netting on the racket head is the surface that hits the ball. The handle includes the grip, which is what the tennis player holds onto during the game. Tennis players need to fit the tennis racket grip to their hands. If the grip is too wide or too small, it can adversely affect the player's game.

Things You'll Need:

  • Ruler Tape measure
  1. Step 1

Open the hand you use to hold the tennis racket. Keep your fingers extended and together.

  2. Step 2

Use a ruler to measure the distance from the tip of your ring finger to the first palm crease closest to the knuckles. This will be near the center of the palm.

  3. Step 3

Use the tape measure to measure the circumference of the handle grip of tennis racket you are considering. Choose a tennis racket where the circumference of the handle grip matches the measurement from Step 2.

Tips & Warnings
  • If between sizes, choose the smaller size and add an over-grip sleeve to the handle.
