How to Weave a Hemp Bracelet
Hemp has been used for making many things, including paper, clothing, rope and even food. Hemp can also be made into bracelets by taking strands of hemp twine, which can usually be purchased at your local craft store and weaving them together. If you are looking for a simple craft that can be done by your kids with little adult supervision, then this is it. When finished, hemp bracelets can be worn or given to friends.

1
Purchase some hemp twine. Hemp twine comes in different colors or you can just get undyed hemp. Take a strand of hemp twine and cut it at 6 inches long. Take another strand of hemp twine and double the length, cutting it at 12 inches.

2
Fold and knot the twine. Fold one strand in half so that there is a point in the middle and fold the other strand of hemp in half, making a point in the middle of that one also. Be sure that the ends of both pieces are even. Knot the middle points of both strands of hemp twine together, leaving a half end loop.

Stick the safety pin through the knot and fasten it to the fabric of a piece of furniture, the carpet or the jeans you are wearing. Fastening it with a safety pin keeps it securely in place. You can also place a heavy object on the knotted end to keep it in place.

Weave the hemp. Put the two short strands in the middle leaving the two longer strands on the outside. Weave the right outer strand over the middle strands and under the left outer strand. Keep a hold on the right outer strand and weave the left outer strand under the middle strands and over the right outer strand. Pull both outer strands to tighten. You can change the weave pattern and make a spiral weave by repeating only Step 4.

5
Take the left outer strand and weave it under the middle strands and then over the right outer strand. Keeping hold of the left outer strand you then weave the right outer strand over the middle strands and under the left strand. Pull both the outer left and right strands to tighten the weaves. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until the bracelet is the length you wanted for your wrist. This is called a flat weave. Tie the end strings into a knot and pull through the loop and knot again to fasten the bracelet.
