How to Build a Concrete Drinking Fountain

A concrete drinking fountain is a great addition to a home or business. It is strong enough to use outdoors near a baseball field, playground or recreation area. For a business, it can make people more comfortable and keep them at your business longer, since they do not need to leave to get a drink.       Build a form. Cut four 12-inch wide planks to 40 inches in length, and then assemble them in a box shape forming a 40-inch tall, 12-inch by 12-inch square tube. Use wood screws to attach the boards together, then wrap metal strapping around the entire form for added strength.

      Slide this form over your water fountain pipe. This pipe must be at least 40 inches tall.

      Mix up a large batch of concrete and fill the form halfway full of concrete. Let it dry, then fill the form the rest of the way. Let it dry for several hours.

      Attach the drinking fountain nozzle to your pipe. The fountain nozzle comes in a package with all the necessary hardware you need to assemble it right to the water pipe. The first step is to mount your attachment bracket onto the pipe. Just slide it over the pipe and then solder it in place.

      Twist the fountain nozzle into the bracket until it is secure. Apply a heavy layer of plumber's solder over the bracket and under the fountain bowl to ensure that there are no leaks.

      Let the concrete dry for at least 24 hours before you remove the forms. Once your remove the forms, the concrete will need to cure.This could take up to three days.
