How to do the "C" Section of the ABC Step in Tap Dancing

The final section of the ABC dance in tap dancing is the "C" part. The "C" section includes the following: heel digs, back brushes (which are a staple of the overall step) and stomps (which do not bear weight, unlike a stamp).

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tap shoes
  1. Step 1

    Heel dig your right foot (dig your heel into the ground to the front) and back brush (spank) your right foot ("1 and").

  2. Step 2

    Step down on your right and heel dig your left foot ("2 and").

  3. Step 3

    Brush back your left foot and step on your left ("3 and").

  4. Step 4

    Heel dig right and back brush right, step down right ("4 and 5").

  5. Step 5

    Heel dig on your left and back brush left ("and 6"), then step down on your left "(and") and stomp on your right foot twice (7 8).

  6. Step 6

    Combine the steps to part "C" of the ABC step: Heel dig, back brush, step, heel dig, back brush, step, heel dig, back brush, step, heel dig, back brush, step, stomp stomp. Consider the count: 1 and 3 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 8.

Tips & Warnings
  • Start the ABC step from the very beginning. The first part "A" involves these steps and begins with: Back brush, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, step, drop left heel, drop right heel, back brush, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, step, drop right heel, drop left heel. After completing the first section, venture on to "B", which entails: Back brush, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, toe jab to back, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, toe jab to back, heel drop, step, heel drop, flat After taking a deep breath, move on to "C" and its components: Heel dig, back brush, step, heel dig, brush, step, heel dig, back brush, step, heel dig, back brush, step, stomp stomp. The video demonstration found in the Resources section depicts the Cincinnati step in tap dancing, which contains similar elements to the ABC step.
