Choose the furniture piece you want to refinish. If you do not already own the piece you are looking for, it's a good idea to peruse second hand stores or thrift stores. Often you can find items in great shape for a fraction of what you would pay for new. Once you have found just the right furniture for your project, you can begin.

2
Based on the existng color scheme of the room, or the newly chosen colors, decide on the color you want the piece to be. (Please note: If you are set on a natural wood color, this technique is not for you).

Visit the paint section at your local do-it-yourself store. These stores carry a variety of spray paints that can be used on almost any material. Be sure however, to choose the ones specifically made for your material your furniture is made with, whether that be wood or metal. Consider using multiple colors for large piece like dressers. You can do each drawer in a different color, or do the base in one and all the drawers in another. Multiple colors add a nice touch to a child's room, but be sure to choose colors that are in the same general family as the paint or other furniture in the room.

Once you have made the decision on what colors to use, bring the chosen piece to a well-ventilated area. Good places to use aerosol paints are an open garage, driveway, or lawn. Just be sure to put newspapers or other protective materials down on any area that you don't want to get paint on. It is also a good idea to use a face mask to lessen inhalation of paint fumes.

Remove the drawers and any existing hardware, such as handles or brackets, and put them aside. Begin spraying paint over the furniture, being sure to spray slowly and evenly. Once the entire piece is covered, set it aside to dry. Next, spray your hardware and let it dry.

Check the paint coverage once the piece has dried. If necessary, add another coat of paint. When all of the pieces are entirely dry, replace all hardware and drawers. Voila! You now have a "new" piece of furniture.
