Step 1
Make reservations well in advance for this night. Of the four resorts at this corner, Tropicana Casino has been historically the least expensive, and even the older rooms at street level are fetching a hefty sum.
-
Step 2
Live extravagantly and reserve a room at the MGM Grande for the night. Prices on this corner vary from Tropicana to the MGM, with Excalibur and New York somewhere in between. The MGM countdown clock is the Vegas authority on the New Year.
-
Step 3
Note that there are comparatively reasonable stays at Hooters, Hard Rock or even Bally's. However, walking through impenetrable masses of people to reach Four Corners may be a challenge.
-
Step 4
Prepare for winter weather. Though Vegas is famously known for its heat, and the daytime may be comfortable, temperature drops like a rock after the sun goes down on the desert.
-
Step 5
Note that New Years Eve on the Strip is a street party. The streets are blockaded early and the casinos will not allow non-guest parking. Unless the visitor is parked and settled by early evening, chances are slim they'll be able to celebrate with the rest.
-
Step 6
Buy a bottle of champagne for the blessed event. Also, double fist some cocktail drinks early from an already crowded bar in the casino. These will probably be the only spirits consumed for the night.
-
Step 7
Find a spot on the street about 2 hours before the countdown and stay planted. The huddled masses tend to be affected by some ebb and flow, and soon, one will shift out of view.
-
Step 8
Opt instead to view the countdown from one of the catwalks that cross between casinos. However, the walks get crowded as well. The more memorable experience seems to be down on The Strip.
-
Step 9
Shift toward the Tropicana Casino after the countdown and celebrate the New Year in one of its nightclubs. Frankly, the other three resorts on the block have quite a calling card and may be just too crowded to get any decent service. Even at the Trop, service may be a challenge.
