Flowers and candy are the most acceptable and expected Valentine's Day gifts. But the cost of, say, a dozen long stem roses my be too much for your budget. But there are some ways save on Valentine's Day flowers so you can still get the gift you want for your loved one.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grow your own flowers. Not only will growing your own flowers save money, but it will also add some personal affection to your gift giving on Valentine's Day. Delivering homegrown flowers shows that you took time to plan ahead and that you invested lots of time in the care of the flowers. This brings more purpose and meaning to the flowers you give to your valentine.

  2. Step 2

Purchase your flowers ahead of time. Good things come to those who wait, and in this case, so do lower prices. Flower shops mark up the price of popular flowers during Valentine's Day so purchasing them around that time will only cost more. Put your order in at the earliest available date and pay for it using cash or a credit card to ensure a lower price without the holiday markup.

  3. Step 3

Pick your flowers from an existing garden. Ask your neighbor if you can pick a flower or two from her garden and assemble a perfect mix of flowers for your valentine. You may even offer to pay for each flower you take. Picking fresh flowers is original and will show your valentine that you wanted to put a personal authentic touch on the flowers you give.

  4. Step 4

Refrain from the use of roses. Roses will be more expensive since the demand for them goes up tremendously around the Valentine's season. Using an alternative flower can provide an equal experience when giving them away as a Valentine's gift. You may also use the favorite flower of your Valentine if they are not roses, to put a personal touch on the flowers given as well.

  5. Step 5

Give a single flower instead of a bouquet. One single flower is classy and helps to keep the gift from being overdone. This will save you money and also allow you to spend more on another gift or on the single flower itself. One beautiful long-stemmed rose in a perfect setting can do wonders with a nice Valentine's Day card or poem attached to it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to recheck the delivery date when ordering flowers ahead of time from a florist.
  • Don't tell your Valentine that you are trying to save money on flowers, as this may come off as cheap and serve to make your valentine feel insignificant.
