Slide Projector Rental

Perhaps your boss handed you a slab of slides and said he wants a presentation next week. Maybe you're throwing a surprise birthday party and have all kinds of old slides of the person growing up. Whatever the case, you need a slide projector. Rather than running out and buying something you may only need this once, you can look into slide projector rental with a few simple tips.

Instructions

    • 1

Reserve in advance. Don't wait until you absolutely, positively must show a slate of slides in an hour. Even local rental places may not have the exact projector you need available. Try to set a rental reservation at least a week prior to the date you actually need the projector.

    • 2

Figure out what type of projector you want. If you have 35 mm slides, which are the most common, decide on the brightness, quality and features you wish the projector to have. If you have slides that are not the standard 35 mm type, measure your slides with a ruler so you can tell the rental company what size tray is needed to fit your slides.

    • 3

Check out possible rental places in your area. Picking up and dropping off a projector yourself or with a local delivery is going to put less wear and tear on the machine and save a bundle in delivery costs. Check in with your local camera and computer equipment stores, photo developing studios, entertainment center sellers and even those rental centers that rent everything from couches to computers before you buy.

    • 4

Go national. If you live in a small town or have needs that can't be met locally, your best bet may be finding company that will deliver the projector nationwide. Deliveries alone can start around $50, so be prepared to spend. See Resources below.

Tips & Warnings

  • Perhaps you won't have to rent a projector at all, but simply borrow one from a photographer pal, a friend of a friend of a sister who has a projector or through someone's job. Maybe your neighbor works at a school, library or large corporation where they are always putting on slide presentations. Churches are another place you may find slide projectors.

  • Check your projector the minute you get it to make sure everything is functioning properly. Don't wait until you're trying to show a slide show in the board room to realize the light is burnt out.
