How to Block Incoming Phone Calls

You can block unwanted phone calls.

It can be annoying getting certain phone calls that you don't want. But there are quite a few ways to block such calls. It's as easy as deciding how you want to do it.

Instructions

1. Get caller ID. This allows you to skip unwanted telephone calls from numbers you don't recognize or choose to ignore. These boxes can be bought from your phone company, but most newer phones come with caller ID as long as you purchase the service from the phone company.

2. Utilize the phone company's services such as call blocking, unidentified call rejection or special ring tones for people you know. Each work differently but can achieve similar results. With call blocking, you enter a special code into your phone that blocks the last number that called or numbers you specify. With unidentified call rejection, any anonymous number is automatically blocked. The special ring tone service allows you to have a ring tone that is unique for people you know.

3. Download call-filtering software. Certain software was created to allow people to filter their calls, thus blocking certain callers. These filters utilize caller ID and allow you to set up messages for calls you don't want to receive, such as callers who have numbers you do not recognize.

4. The simplest way to block unwanted sales calls is to sign up for the Do Not Call Registry online. This is a free service that puts you on a list that telemarketers are not allowed to call.
