How to Use a Ryobi Plunge Router

Ryobi is just another brand name like Makita or Dewalt. They make hand tools as well as power tools. Ryobi makes a plunge router that is used for cutting grooves in paneling, mortising hinges on doors and other heavy duty wood cutting and designing. Using a Ryobi plunge router isn't difficult once you get the hang of it. Just like with any plunge router, safety is the number one importance, as router bits are very sharp and can cause finger injuries.

Things You'll Need:

• Plunge router bit

1. Put in the right diameter router bits. A plunge router can only use a bit made for plunge cuts when plunge routing, not decorative.

2. Adjust the depth in which you are going to make your plunge on your Ryobi plunge router.

3. Position your Ryobi plunge router flat on the surface of your workpiece above the location you'll be making your cut. Plunge routers can start cutting in the middle of the wood.

4. Start your plunge router and make your cut. Remember to always move your router from left to right due to the rotation of the blade.

5. Be sure to turn your plunge router off and make sure the blade completely stops spinning before removing it from the workpiece.

Tips & Warnings

• Only one wrench is needed to remove and install bits, since the tool comes with a spindle lock.
• Always wear hand protection to prevent damage that can occur from very sharp router bits, and wear eye protection to prevent eye damage from flying wood chips. Be sure to turn your plunge router off and make sure the blade completely stops spinning before removing it from the workpiece.
