Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure Saw
-
Step 1
Decide whether you want a pre-cut tree or to cut one down yourself. This will determine where you go to find your tree. If you want a pre-cut tree, you will want to find a Christmas tree stand to look for the right one. If you are cutting your own, you will want to decide where you will go. There are many Christmas tree farms that allow people to choose a tree and cut it down themselves.
-
Step 2
Decide what kind of tree you would like. There are many types of spruce and evergreen trees to choose from. The differences are mainly in the color and length of the needles.
-
Step 3
Measure the area you will be putting the tree. You want to make sure the tree is not too big to fit, and not so small that it looks scrawny.
-
Step 4
Go tree shopping. If you are cutting your own tree, make sure you bring your saw. When you look at trees, you want to make sure the trunk isn't bent. You will want to look at the top to make sure the shape comes to a nice point, for your topper. You will want to look at the bottom to make sure there is enough branch coverage, but not too much. After all, you will want Christmas presents to fit under the tree.
-
Step 5
Measure the tree that you think is the right one, before you buy it or cut it down.
-
Step 6
Test the needles to see if the tree is too dry, by running your hand gently over the needles. If many fall off, the tree is already dry and you might want to look for another.
-
Step 7
When you have found the perfect Christmas tree, cut it down if it isn't pre-cut, and pay for it. If already cut, pay for it and tie it to your car.
-
Step 8
Securely tie the tree to your car roof or place it in the back of a truck.
