How to Use Astragalus to Fight Colds

While there are many cold and flu prevention medications on the market, choosing a natural remedy may better for your health and wallet. Astragalus, an herb used for thousands of years, is known to enhance the immune system and help fight respiratory infections.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Take astragalus supplements. The herb comes in different forms, including capsule, tablet or dried herbs for tea. The herb not only helps promote a general well-being, but can also serve as an antioxidant to correct or prevent cell damage in the body.

  2. Step 2

    Take the supplement at the first signs of illness. Take 200 mg once or twice a day until the symptoms subside. If suffering from acute bronchitis, takes 200 mg four times a day until the symptoms go away.

  3. Step 3

    Use the herb in tea to improve immunity or to reduce symptoms of an existing cold or flu. Use 1 tbsp. of the dried herb and steep in warm water.

  4. Step 4

    Boost the benefits of astragalus by combining it with other herbs such as echinacea, ginseng or licorice.

  5. Step 5

    Reduce the chance of stress on the immune system and the overall health by taking Astragalus supplements in the colder months, since stress from daily life can break down the immune system and cause more sever illness.

  • Astragalus is safe to use with many conventional medicines and does not interfere with many treatments.
