Why buy expensive Swiffer pads when you can make your own resusable ones?
Why buy expensive Swiffer pads when you can make your own resusable ones?

Swiffers are so much easier to use than brooms. They're lightweight and grab onto dust and hair instead of throwing them around like a broom does. Using disposable Swiffer pads is not very eco-friendly, though. Here's a super-easy, cheap, and green way to make reusable cloths for your Swiffer Dry.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Swiffer Dry
  • Rectangles of felt (craft stores sell them in 8"x10" sheets for about 20 cents).
  1. Step 1

Wrap the felt around the head of the Swiffer Dry.

  2. Step 2

Tuck the ends of the felt into the rubber holes of the Swiffer to secure. That's it! You've just made your own reusable Swiffer Dry pad, with no sewing at all.

  3. Step 3

Dust your floor to your heart's content. Notice how the felt grabs onto pet hair, dust, and crumbs. It's amazing!

  4. Step 4

If the felt becomes full of dirt while you're cleaning, simply remove it, flip it over, and re-secure it to the Swiffer head. (Unlike Swiffer Dry cloths, you can use both sides of your felt while you clean.)

  5. Step 5

Remove the felt from your Swiffer and take it outside to shake off the excess dust and hair.

  6. Step 6

Launder the felt pieces in the same way you'd wash your towels. Take another green step, and hang your little felt pieces to dry, instead of tossing them in the dryer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some people use flannel (cutting up old shirts to use), but I find that felt grabs and holds onto more dirt and hair.
  • Have several pieces of felt on hand, so that you'll always have a clean cloth for your Swiffer, even if you're a little lax with laundry day.
