How to Maintain Natural Curls

To maintain natural curls requires knowledge. That’s because caution and care are required to keep locks healthy. Use the following steps to maintain natural curls.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • comb
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • silk pillowcase or satin bonnet
  1. Step 1

Keep hair and scalp hydrated. Drink plenty of water, and wash hair often to maintain natural curls.

  2. Step 2

Use gentle shampoos that contain small amounts of alcohol, or even better – none at all.

  3. Step 3

Condition, condition, condition. To maintain natural curls that are easier to comb through, conditioning is a must. A conditioner acts as a detangler when the hair is wet. And it also revitalizes dried out tresses.

  4. Step 4

Comb hair gently, preferably when wet. This will ensure that you maintain natural curls with minimum breakage. If necessary, use fingers to get tangles out of the hair before brushing or combing it.

  5. Step 5

Avoid excessively using damaging items in or on the hair. Heat from curling irons and blow dryers tend to cause breakage. So use sparingly to maintain natural curls.

  6. Step 6

Sleep on a silk pillowcase or in a satin bonnet. This will prevent unnecessary friction on the hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a wide tooth comb. It is gentler on curls.
  • Do not wear the hair in rubber bands or ponytail holders that are too tight.
