How to Make a Soda Bomb

Soda bombs are simple but somewhat dangerous concoctions. They can be made in a few ways, but no matter how you make them, make sure you set them in a clear area with no people or animals around.

Things You'll Need

• Liter bottle of cola
• 2-liter soda bottle, empty
• Mentos breath mints
• Large container of standard rubbing alcohol, 95 percent+ isopropyl.
• 3 to 4 chlorine tablets used in pools
• Hammer

Instructions

Soda and Mentos

1. Open the soda bottle and set it on the ground in a clear area outside.

2. Very carefully drop one or two Mentos into the soda.

3. Move away quickly as the candy catalyzes the carbon dioxide release, causing an eruption.

Soda and Rubbing Alcohol

1. Crush the chlorine tablets into powder with the hammer.

2. Drop the powder into the empty 2-liter soda bottle.

3. Set the bottle on the ground.

4. Pour rubbing alcohol into the bottle until it is two-thirds full or you run out.

5. Screw on the cap as tight as you can and shake the bottle for a few seconds.

6. Move to a safe distance quickly as the pressure builds and the bottle blows up.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't point your soda bomb at people or animals.
