From Quick Guide: Gift Wrapping
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • empty containers of any kind (i.e. crates from oranges, water bottle boxes, old coffee cans, etc.)
  • twine, everyday string, curling ribbons,
  • tape, tissue paper or old pieces of fabric, dish towels
  • markers, paint, crayons, colored pencils, stickers
  • index cards, scissors, hole puncher
  • store-bought cellophane (optional)
  1. Step 1
    container
    container

Depending on the size/items you are wrapping together, pick a container or size of tissue appropriate for the article. For example, let's say we are wrapping hand soap in a pump with a body lotion together. Use a piece of tissue and a bit bigger cut piece of cellophane. Place cellophane under tissue as you...

  2. Step 2
    cellophane

Put the items in the center of the piece of tissue and gather it up all around both the soap/lotion, squeezing it together, and twisting it at the top.

  3. Step 3

Tie it with twine, string, ribbon, long pieces of material, raffia, or curling ribbon at the top where you have twisted the cellophane & tisue. For extra flair, tie in a piece of seasonal candy or flower or sprig of holly!

  4. Step 4
    sticker
    sticker

For finishing touches, add a sticker or label (expressionery.com) boasting "have a great day, xo your name" by using plain paper or cut out a piece of a paper grocery bag and tape it to the gift. This personalizes it without your having to purchase an additional card. You can make up many labels on the computer if you have a printer, and you will always have gift tags! Now your gift is all dressed up and ready to give! The recipient will be happy to open such a well-wrapped, creative gift!

Tips & Warnings
  • Just relax, don't tense up! This is supposed to be fun!
  • Throw away all unused scraps of materials so your dog(s) and small children don't injest!

on 3/18/2009 Your oldest article was a great one! But your warning about scraps being a danger to pets is SO true! My son almost lost his cat to a long piece of curling paper ribbon which his then-girlfriend had just left for a minute or two - when she looked, the cat had ingested most of it! But the vet saved him, and we all learned just how serious this can be. Here's a 5* for your earliest effort!
