It's time to trim the Christmas Tree. In the hurry scurry way that we live our lives these days, it sometimes seems like more of a chore than a holiday pleasure. Instead of downsizing your tree to make it a smaller task why not make trimming the tree a progressive holiday event? Trim the tree over the holiday season and anticipate and savor each new layer that you add to your tree until it reaches it's full glory at Christmas.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

String the lights, colored, monotone or white on the tree. Take the time to place the lights for even coverage. Flip the switch and enjoy the immediate ambiance it adds to the room. Check for burnt out bulbs and replace them. If your tree is pre-lit all you have to do is plug it in and check for burnt out bulbs and replace them. Enjoy the first step of your progressive decorating for a week or a day or two, based on the time frame you decided on for your progression.

  2. Step 2

Place the tree top ornament, angel, star or bow on the top of the tree. This is a perfect time to add the top, especially if you need to place it over a light. Place the tree skirt below the tree. Move on to the next step as planned.

  3. Step 3

Add the strings of beads all shiny or bright, or garland or ribbon next. It is easy to weave your choice through the branches with no ornaments on the branches. As the tree begins to take on its progressive personality perhaps your holiday spirt will also begin to grow.

  4. Step 4

Place the ornaments one by one until they are all perfectly placed. Take the time to place them so they catch the lights for their best sparkle and glow. Wait a day or two or a week or so and then move on to the next step.

  5. Step 5

Add any special last accent layer such as candy canes and bows or glittering ting ting. Then add any specialty items below the tree. Your progressively decorated Christmas Tree will have the distinction of being a unique centerpiece of your holiday season that hopefully will help your holiday spirit evolve as your tree evolves into the pièce de résistance of your holiday decorations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Since your Progressive Christmas Tree Decorating will be done over a time period an artificial tree is probably the best choice, unless your time frame stretches over a shorter period such as 1 week with daily progression.
