This is a recipe with a twist to the traditional candy yams Thanksgiving favorite.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 7 medium sweet potatoes or yams
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 tsp orange peel
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1(8 oz.) can crushed pineapple (in juice)
  1. Step 1

    Boil the potatoes or yams in water until soft. When the potatoes are soft peel potatoes and cut into 1 1/2 cubes.

  2. Step 2

    Lightly grease a 3x9 inch baking dish. You can use a little oil to grease the pan. Preheat oven to 375 degrees .

  3. Step 3

    In a sauce pan over low heat melt the butter. Add the brown sugar,cinnamon,orange peel,nutmeg,salt,vanilla and pineapple with juice into the melted butter. keep on low heat and simmer until sauce reaches a syrup consistency .Constantly stir mixture to ensure that it does not burn and stick to the pan.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the potatoes into the baking dish and mix with the sauce. Bake for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes take out dish and pour marshmallows over potatoes. Bake for 15 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Take dish out of the oven. Cool for 10 minutes and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer the sauce to be thicker pour a little cornstarch in with mixture. If you prefer a more runny sauce add 1/3 cup water.
