Step 1
We've all been lied to and probably many times with out even knowing it. One way that can often give away a guilty party when they lie is how they react to the accusation. Does the person get defensive? this is often a sign of guilt. An innocent person will most likely get offensive.
-
Step 2
Also you should pay attentions to a person's body language when trying to tell if they are lying. A lying person's body will most likely hardly move at all, with no movement of the extremities. Any movements they do make with their extremities will be toward their own personal space, such as folding their arms or tucking their hands in their pockets.
-
Step 3
Look at the person's eyes. Does he/she make eye contact? Do their eyes move wildly around the room trying to focus on anything but your face? This is a guilty action.
-
Step 4
Pay attention also to a person's speech patterns. If a person hesitates before they give you an answer they are probably thinking about what they should say. If they are telling the truth, they shouldn't haven't to think about it, they should just be able to tell you.
-
Step 5
Listen to the the tone of their voice. A voice that uses little or no inflection is often not natural. The person is probably thinking so hard about their lie that the loose comfort and therefor lose their ability to speak naturally to you. All these indicators can make you more aware of someone lying to you, but remember, no measure of lie detection is fool proof, but this can at least help you out.
