Whether you're planning to start a new business, or have been in business for a while, a business plan can be an important tool to help you succeed. While there are consultants who will write a business plan for you, they are usually costly. And most small businesses don't have a lot of money to spare. Follow these steps to find out how you can learn to write a business for free.

Instructions

1. Visit the Small Business Administration website at sba.gov and click on the area called 'Free Online Training.' You'll see sections on Starting a Business, Business Planning, Business Management, Finance & Accounting, Marketing & Advertising, etc.

2. Under the section called 'Business Planning' you will find two online courses that have to do with business plans: 'How to Prepare a Business Plan' and 'Developing a Successful Business Plan'. 'How to Prepare a Business Plan' is among the SBA's five most popular courses.

3. By clicking on each one of the courses you will be taken to a screen that will walk you through a short registration process, with just a few questions to answer.

4. After registering, you will be allowed to take the business plan course that you registered for. Each course should take no longer than thirty minutes to complete.
