Open your speech by thanking the groom for asking you to be his best man. You may have already thanked him a million times, but this is your chance to officially and publicly thank him and let him know how much it means to you.

Tell a story or anecdote about how you know the groom, how the bride and groom met, etc. Do not tell inappropriate stories about ex-girlfriends, drunken nights out, etc. This is your chance to share something special with the wedding guests, not embarrass the groom.

Acknowledge the groom's good choice in his bride. Compliment the bride and congratulate the groom.

If you are unsure if a certain story is inappropriate or not, ask a responsible friend for his/her opinion.
Write notes on index cards to help you remember the main points of your speech. Even if you are well-prepared and think you will remember it, you might get very nervous on the big day and forget everything!
