It's a pleasure to recognize someone for a job well done. Here's how to give a positive recommendation that communicates how much you value an employee.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Check with your human resources department to be sure you comply with company policy. You may be restricted to confirming job title, salary and dates of employment (sad, isn't it?).
Step2
Delegate the task of preparing a written recommendation to the employee requesting one. He or she writes it, you sign it.
Step3
Focus on the employee's job accomplishments in your oral remarks. Your evaluation of how he or she performed on specific projects have much greater value than broad statements about loyalty or leadership.
Step4
Stay in touch. Whatever the circumstances of the employee's separation from your company, if you value this person as a colleague, nurture the relationship.

To Whom It May Concern:

It is a pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for YOUR NAME/CANDIDATE. From July 2nd ' October 23rd 2001, I was one of NAME Supervisor's at PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT.

Our schools Americorp program assigned YOUR NAME to my class to work one on one with four to five of my low performing, or at risk, students. She always communicated with me in advance if she needed to complete specific program tasks. YOUR NAME/CANDIDATE also served as a wonderful, and always willing cooperative helper, whenever she was needed to assist the students with seatwork or with activity preparation. She has outstanding interpersonal skills that made our class run very smoothly. On particular occasions, she even helped in communicating to parents in Spanish if I could not. YOUR NAME/CANDIDATE went over and above her job requirements, and I am grateful for her flexibility. This is someone who demonstrates a dedication and willingness to any situation that she is presented with.

YOUR NAME/CANDIDATE would be a wonderful addition to any work environment. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at PHONE NUMBER.

Sincerely,

FORMER SUPERVISOR/BOSS ETC
