How to Create Terra Cotta Reindeer Christmas Bell Ornaments

This is just the cutest little terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornament idea for kids of all ages. With adult supervision, children will love helping to make these terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornaments.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 small terra cotta pots
  • Brown craft paint
  • Small paint brush
  • 4 moveable eyes
  • 2 red pom poms
  • Gold thread
  • 2 small jingle bells
  • 2 brown pipe cleaners
  • 1 foot of green ribbon
  • 1 small white flower
  • 1 small black top hat
  • Glue gun
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1
    Attach bell to gold thread
    Attach bell to gold thread

    Cut a piece of gold thread about 1 foot long. Thread the small jingle bell onto the gold thread and tie a little knot to make a circle. Trim ends off near the knot.

  2. Step 2
    Paint terra cotta pot
    Paint terra cotta pot

    With a small brush, paint the terra cotta pot using brown craft paint. Be sure to paint the inside and top of the terra cotta pot, as well as the outside. Set aside and let the paint dry completely.

    Attach eyes

    Using the heated glue gun, carefully attach the two eyes, one at a time, to the front of the terra cotta pot.

    Push the gold thread, with the jingle bell on it, through the bottom of the hole in the terra cotta pot.

    Pull the gold thread almost all the way through. Leave enough of the gold thread so that the jingle bell hangs level with the bottom of the terra cotta pot. This gold thread that comes out of the top of the hole will be the hanger so that you can hang the terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornament on your tree.

    Take a brown pipe cleaner and shape the antlers like the picture illustrates.

    Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together in the middle to form the antlers for the terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornament.

    With the glue gun, carefully glue the little green bow and the little white flower to the antlers.

    Apply glue, with the glue gun, to the twisted ends of the antlers and push these ends into the hole on top of the terra cotta reindeer bell Christmas ornament. Make sure that the antlers with the little white flower lines up in front, centered between the two eyes. Make sure that the gold thread comes out in back of the antlers. Hold firmly until glue cools a bit.

  10. Step 10
    Glue on nose
    Glue on nose

    Then with the glue gun, attach the red pom pom forming the nose. You have just created the female terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornament.

    For the male reindeer you will follow steps 1 through 7. When you get ready to glue the antlers on the male terra cotta reindeer, apply glue and stick the twisted end of the antlers into the hole on top of the terra cotta pot. Hold firmly until glue cools a bit. With the glue gun, attach the red pom pom forming the nose.

    Carefully apply glue to the little black top hat and attach to the top of the terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornament in front of the antlers. Hold firmly until glue cools.

    Here are the finished male and female terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornaments. So cute.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are making several of these terra cotta reindeer Christmas bell ornaments, you can use an assembly line technique.
