Do you have a skill that you could teach someone? How about giving a “gift certificate” for a special, one-on-one class teaching a skill that you have and know someone would like to learn. Not only does this cost you nothing, the time you spend together is a gift in itself, and a new skill is something that lasts a lifetime and never wears out!

• Someone to learn

1. Write down your hobbies and skills; things you enjoy doing and can do well. Look through the classes offered through community education to get ideas for the kinds of things people might be interested in learning.

2. Here are some ideas to get you started. Photography. Drawing. Painting. Scrap booking. Operating a computer. Selling on ebay. Setting up and running a website. Organizing skills. Interior decoration. Sewing. Knitting. Crocheting. Cooking. Decorating cakes. Planning a menu. Woodworking. Refinishing furniture.

3. Decide what skills you feel confident to teach. Match them with the people on your Christmas list. Make a note of the times people have said, “That’s so neat--I wish I could do that!”

4. Create a special gift certificate or card that makes clear what skill is being offered. Print it out on sturdy paper. Give it with a smile!
