Before you upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista, or if you want to upgrade from one edition of Vista to a more powerful one, the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor can help you to determine whether or not your Vista PC is ready for the upgrade. Read on to learn how to use this free,downloadable web utility.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, and save it to your PC. (See Resources below for the download link).

  2. Step 2

    Double click on the installation file icon to run the Upgrade Advisor utility. Click on the link that reads: Start System Scan. Follow the wizard and complete it. The upgrade advisor will present you with a report once its scan is complete.

  3. Step 3

    Review the report that you get to determine whether your PC is Vista-ready, find out the specific edition of Vista that will meet your needs, as well as the specific features of Vista that can run on your PC.
