How to Make a Holiday Ham

Make a Holiday Ham
Make a Holiday Ham

Don't just cook a traditional holiday ham, spice it up and treat your guests to a tantalizing ham full of flavor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 bone-in smoked ham
  • 1 bottle of white wine of your choice
  • 2 cups water
  • 6 apples
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  1. Step 1

Choose a bone-in ham and remove its skin. The ham's fat should be scored in a criss-cross pattern creating little squares. Do this with a cutting knife.

  2. Step 2

Add water to a baking pan and bake ham for two hours at 325 degrees.

  3. Step 3

Pour your wine over the ham and continue roasting for 30 more minutes.

  4. Step 4

Add your apples and roast for an additional 30 minutes. Peel and finely cut your cooked apples while letting your ham roast for an additional hour. Baste ham often with the wine. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature of your ham reaches 170 degrees.

  5. Step 5

Mix your chopped apples with butter and 1/2 cup of the pan juices (fat removed). Mash your apples into the melted butter and wine juices to make a sauce. Add salt and pepper for taste.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let ham sit for at least 15-20 minutes before carving.
  • The sauce can be made without adding the wine juices from the pan.
  • Actual cooking time may vary depending on the weight of the ham. Please read ham packaging for precise cooking times.
