A homeschool science club is a great way for families to get together and enjoy doing science experiments or learn from speakers. Homeschool science clubs can have field trips and activities can be tailored to complement a specific homeschool science curriculum or just to meet the interests of the children involved. Planning a homeschool science club is easy, and the commitment from parents is minimal, usually they just need to show up.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 9 other homeschooling families
  1. Step 1

Recruit 9 other homeschooling families, in addition to yourself. Having ten families makes it easier to plan because then each family only needs to be in charge of one month's planning.

  2. Step 2

Get together for a pre-planning meeting before your first Science club day. Your objective is to choose which day each month you'll be meeting. Make sure everyone brings their calendar so they can compare notes. Good luck with homeschoolers finding a day that works for everyone.

  3. Step 3

Each month, the family that's supposed to plan needs to think of a few activities (plan 20 minutes for each activity) Instead of doing the activities all in a row, set up each activity at a different table, and have the children rotate from one table to another throughout the meeting.

Have the families in attendance manage a table during the event, so that kids are attended and supervised, especially with dangerous science club activities.

Tips & Warnings
  • Since it's once a month consider doing this on a Saturday morning so that dads can be involved
  • make sure that you have activities planned for every age group in your club
