Save On Taxes For a Small Business
Save On Taxes For a Small Business

The United States was born and bred on small businesses. The government supports small business through some tax relief and a variety of other advantages. To get the most out of government tax relief for small businesses there is a few steps to follow.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose your accountant carefully. Many business owners find that they have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars by using a Professional Tax Accountant that specializes in Business Taxes. A regular tax professional will not know all the tax info for a business.

  2. Step 2

See your accountant early. Do not wait until your taxes are due. A business accountant should be able to help with tax situations year around and will in the end pay for them self's.

  3. Step 3

Choose the right business structure to operate your business under. Each business structure has different tax incentives and if your business is filed under the wrong structure it may no qualify for as many incentives. For example if your company is under a sole priority ship and should be listed under a corporation, you may not qualify for any incentives as a sole priority ship and since your not listed under a corporation you do not qualify there either. Also, if a business appears to be miss listed, it will more likely receive a IRS audit.

  4. Step 4

Keep books and records organized. A great bookkeeping program can be a great investment. Without proper records tax incentive will be hard to qualify for. Plus any figures that can not be backed up by proper paper work, signals a business audit. Which in its self is time consuming.

  5. Step 5

Visit with a investment adviser. Saving for future retirement and kids education costs can be off set by savings with taxes.

  6. Step 6

Do not slack off when it comes to doing payroll taxes. Unpaid or unreported payroll taxes can lead to huge penalties. Hire a payroll company to do payroll if keeping up with payroll taxes is hard for your company.

Tips & Warnings
  • Self employment taxes can be huge, work with your tax accountant to find legitimate ways to reduce the tax.
