Things You'll Need:
- Fire I & II
- Paramedic License
-
Step 1
Most Municipal departments require you to have Fire I & II , and Emt or A Paramedic license. Most Community colleges offer one or both of these classes.
-
Step 2
Button up your job history, most civil employers look for the length of time you worked at one job, they do not want to hire and spend money training a individual just to have them get bored and quit after a few months.
-
Step 3
Your first step after filling out an application will be to take a civil service exam. Most civil service tests are at a 9-10th grade level exam.
If you have not been to school in a while go to the library and check out a sample civil service exam. It seems easy but if you haven't done some of the course work in a while it can see confusing. -
Step 4
After the written test most departments will give you a physical agility test. Start running, sprinting and doing push-ups and pull-ups now. these are timed tests. Although most department say that they are a pass/fail type test they will be recording your time. Trust me the faster you go the better your chance to get hired.
-
Step 5
A final note I do not know of any department that will hire anyone with a felony, so if you really want to become a firefighter, keep your self out of trouble.
