Learn how to make great southern style lumpy mashed potatoes. Learn how to make lumpy potatoes that are great tasting.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 lbs of red potatoes
  • 1/3 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup of sour cream
  • 1/3 of a stick of butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Colander
  • large pot
  • Large bowl
  • potato masher
  1. Step 1

First, save out about two potatoes that you will not peel. Wash them well and you can just cut them up with the other potatoes. This is optional. If you do not wish to have the peels in the potatoes, you do not need to do this step.

  2. Step 2

Peel potatoes and cut them into one inch pieces. Wash them with cold water, drain and put in a large pot. Fill pot with water until the potatoes are covered. Cook them on high until they are boiling. Reduce heat to medium and cook them until they are just almost done. Check them with a fork and pull one piece of the potato appart. It should be just a little under cooked in the center. When finished cooking, drain the water from the potatoes and put them in a large bowl. Add butter, mayonnaise and sour cream.

  3. Step 3

Take your potato masher and mash them for about 1 minute. Take a fork and stir them and add your salt and pepper to taste. Do not over stir them or they will not be lumpy. If they are too lumpy, you may stir them a little more. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • You may add a little milk if they are too dry. Start by adding a TBSP at a time.
  • A dash of garlic powder will give them a little more flavor. Use only about 1/8 tsp of garlic powder.
