Time to replace the ol' Kaypro? A new desktop computer will do wonders for your productivity, personal information management, and just sheer enjoyment of photos, music and videos. But which PC is the best one for you, and where to get it at the best price? Here's how to narrow down the choices.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit ConsumerSearch.com's page of Desktop Computer Reviews. ConsumerSearch is a terrific product review site. They "review the reviews" that are published in magazines like Consumer Reports and PC Magazine, as well as website reviews at Amazon, CNet.com, etc. ConsumerSearch's top ranked high-end computers, based on performance, speed, reliability, software compatibility, and price, were Velocity Micro Vector GX Custom Home & Office PC, Apple iMac (2.4Ghz, 20-inch display), and the HP TouchSmart PC IQ770.

  2. Step 2
    Maingear Prelude Gaming PC

Also check out CNet.com's desktop computer page, set to sort by Editor's Rating (see Resources, below). You can select features important to you, and from manufacturers you may not be aware of, such as the Maingear Prelude highly rated gaming PC.

  3. Step 3

PC Magazine's Desktop Review is also worth a visit. Like CNet, they offer reviews and ratings, along with Editor's Choice systems. You can sort by ratings, price, manufacturer, and so on. Check out the Falcon Northwest Mach V for an impressive high-performance PC.
