Imagine your book in bookstores and libraries: getting publsihed is easier than you think

It's easy to self-publish, and there are many companies happy to publish your book for a fee. But conventional publishers will publish your book for free and will invest tens of thousand of dollars promoting it. People will tell you that publishing through a conventional route is almost impossible -- but they don't know a few simple important secrets to getting published.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with a word processor.
  • The book "Writer's Market"
  • A little creativity
  1. Step 1

Come up with an idea that will sell. This is the single most important step to getting your book published. Self-help and how-to books are easy to publish if you write about a topic that people want to read and that you know something about. Best ideas: help people solve an important problem (get more money, fix someone or something, feel better), write in an area where you can claim expertise, write in an area with little competition(check books on Amazon).

  2. Step 2

Buy "Writer's Market" and find a publisher that's a good fit for your idea.

  3. Step 3

Create a book proposal -- describe your credentials, how your book can be marketed, and include about two sample chapters and the table of contents.

  4. Step 4

Send your proposal to publishers and wait for a contract. Your contract will specify when your finished book is due. Start writing, submit your finished manuscript, and voila, you're a REAL published author.
