Look Ma! No hands!

Pole Dancing is the latest fitness rage and not just for exotic dancers anymore! Now, ANYONE can buy and install a pole in their home, and virtually anyone can learn the moves. And wouldn't you know it? There's money to be made because of it!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A portable pole. LilMynx® makes a darn good one!
  • DVD's and/or pole dancing lessons.
  • The ability to run your own business.
  1. Step 1

Do a search online for "home party pole dance business" and you'll be off to a good start! The original home-based pole party biz, 'Pole Lot of Fun' is still around and has made it easier than ever for interested women around the world to start this business. Your online search will also show you that many other groups out there who teach this craft offer private in-home parties as well. If you already have a dance background you may decide to simply start your own company. If that doesn't appeal to you, stick with 'Pole Lot of Fun,' who now operate under the name EmpowerNet (or a similar company.) They can help get you up and running right away.

  2. Step 2

Practice the moves! Whether you plan to teach only basic moves, or get right to the advanced stuff, you will need to devote plenty of time to practice and developing your choreography. Watch videos, search on You Tube and/or take classes yourself. Set aside at LEAST one hour a day for practice, and another half hour per day for business planning. It will be time well spent. You will be required at some point to obtain certain certifications showing that you are qualified to teach this sometimes tricky form of dance.

  3. Step 3

Advertise on social networking sites or places like Craig's List where you can post your ads for free! Contact your friends and family and ask them to book a party. Until things take off, you can host parties in your own home. It's a lot of fun and you WILL be the "talk of the neighborhood."

Tips & Warnings
  • Pole safety is a MUST. You absolutely must know how to install and take down your portable pole, or have a qualified crew who can help you.
  • Be aware of the pole's position on the ceiling--you need to know if it has shifted during use.
  • Be careful when wearing "stripper" shoes while pole dancing. A broken ankle is not ANYONE'S idea of fun!
  • Unless you are already a skilled dancer / performer, do not attempt to teach inverts.
  • Pay attention to the manufacturer's weight guidelines on your pole.
