Things You'll Need:

  • pen, paper, telephone
  1. Step 1

    take out your prescription medications and place them on the table. one by one write down the name of the medication on a note pad.

  2. Step 2

    call your prescription medicine insurance provider. ask to speak to a customer service rep. if you do not have prescription insurance call the partnership for prescription association, ( PPA ) its the asssociation that montell williams is the spokesperson for, and ask to speak to a customer service representative.

  3. Step 3

    tell the customer service representatve that you would like to go down your list of medications to see if there is a generic equivalent. for the ones that there are a genericwrite down the name of the generic next to the regular name.

  4. Step 4

    for the medications that do have a generic equivalent, call the doctor that prescribed the medication and speak to the doctor or the office manager. tell them that you need to have the original medication prescription changed to the generic equivalent. have them call the change into your phamacist.

Tips & Warnings
  • if there is a generic equivalent check to see if a retailer like wall mart can provide it they currently have a program for 10 dollars for a 3 month supply of some generics. whether there is a generic equivalent or not and you do not have any insurance call the ppa . if you meet the income requirements the phamacutical companiy that makes your drug will give it to you for free or close to free. remember when disclosing your income social security is not considered income by the IRS.
  • sometimes the generic equivalent of one medication is two medications
