WEP Key - WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy. It is a deprecated algorithm to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. If you have a wireless router and want to set up a wireless network, you'll need a WEP key. If you do online gaming with PSP, X-Box, or any of the other gaming consoles you might need a WEP Key. Here's how you find your Wired Equivalent Privacy key.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • You will need to be connected to the Internet.
  1. Step 1

In your address bar type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 .. Some routers may have a default ip of something like 10.0.0.1. Check your routers manual or google your router to find the default ip if necessary.

  2. Step 2

You may be prompted for a password. The default username and password are - username: admin and password: admin or password

You should now have the setup screen for your router. Go to the wireless tab (or wireless settings) and you should see your WEP key.

  3. Step 3

If you need to find the WEP key for your PSP (or other gaming console) go to www.download.com. In the search box enter "web key." Then scroll down to "wirelesswepkeyview 1.16" and click on it. Click download now. Once downloaded, right click and select extract. Open the file and click on the picture that has a key on it. You'll then see all the nearby wireless networks along with the wep key for your modem.
