Things You'll Need:
- Invitations or a computer, printer, and paper.
- Decorations (pillows, board games, sleeping bags)
- Pajamas
- Finger Foods, or an all-out breakfast buffet after midnight
- Helpful neighbor(s)
-
Step 1
Start sending out invitations the first week of December. You can purchase invitations or create them yourself. Depending on the amount of information you want on the invitations, it may be better to create them in a flyer type format.
-
Step 2
In the invitations, instruct your guests to either wear their pajamas to your party, or bring them. You can have a "fashion show" to judge the best PJ couple, best PJ kid, and one for the single best PJ outfit. Prizes can be pillows, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.
-
Step 3
Create a party for the children if you plan to invite them. Set up a room for them with a couple of teenage supervisors. Offer them noisemakers, fun hats, champagne flutes filled with juice and/or soda, and finger foods. Be sure to involve them in the countdown!
-
Step 4
Invite guests to sleep over or make arrangements for designated drivers and/or cab rides. On the invitation, let them know they have the option of spending the night and to bring sleeping bags for the family.
-
Step 5
Depending on the age of your guests, such as 30-somethings, provide plenty of nostalgic music to sing and dance to. 80's music is perfect for thirty year olds. 90's music for 20's, 70's music for 40's, etc.
You may want to hook up Rock Band or Guitar Hero in your party area. These games have been a hit with many parties. -
Step 6
FOOD
The easiest thing to do is ask everyone to bring finger foods. However, at midnight once everyone has had a little too much to drink and they're getting hungry again, heat up a breakfast casserole. You can prepare it that morning and pop it in about 20 minutes before midnight. A simple mixture of cheese, sausage, eggs, hash browns, ham, onion, bell pepper, etc. Have plenty of orange juice and coffee on hand as well.
Another fast and easy thing to serve is frozen waffles and/or pancakes with bacon. You can pre-cook the bacon and heat it up right before serving.
