So you need to know to to change the thermostat in your flashy lil 1998 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo? Let me try to help! I cant say that I'm any type of expert when it comes to cars, but I'd like to think I have a little knowledge thanks to my Dad! So if you need a helping hand, please, feel free to read on, and maybe we can get this done together! Okay? Okay!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basic knowledge, ie where your motor is located
  • Radiator fluid
  • Your own two hands! :)
  • Of course, you'll be needing the new thermostat you want to put in
  1. Step 1

First, I need you to get to your motor! lol
Your thermostat is going to be at the top. You'll see a hose coming off your radiator with 2 bolts. Your thermostat looks like an aluminum tube. Just know that before you do any of this, you need to have the thermostat ready that you're wanting to put in. You need to know, when purchasing one, what brand you will want and the size of the cylinder you will be needing.Commonly, for this vehicle type, you'll need an 8Cyl 5.2L or 6Cyl 4.0L

  2. Step 2

Take those bolts off, and there will be a clamp you'll need to take off as well! There you'll be able to take out the thermostat and pop in your new one.

  3. Step 3

Put the cap and bolts back in place after you have put in your new thermostat. Put the hose back in place and tighten the clamps, please!

Tips & Warnings
  • always refill your radiator fluid after putting in the thermostat!
  • There are really no precautions, I mean just use common sense! Of course, you want to have your car off, etc! lol And always be sure when securing bolts back into place or clamps that you screw everything on tightly!
