How to Make a Pot of Home Made Chicken and Dumplings

Making a large pot of chicken and dumplings is fairly easy. Chicken and dumplings is also very good when heated up for leftovers. You may add vegetables to your cooked chicken and dumplings to make it even more nutritious and yummy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large pot of water
  • 4 to 6 boneless, skinless pieces of chicken
  • Tongs
  • 2 forks
  • Plate or cutting board
  • Large spoon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 to 3 cans of canned bisciuts
  • Sharp knife
  1. Step 1
    Boil chicken
     
    Boil chicken

    Wash your chicken pieces and place in a pot of boiling water. Add a little salt if desired. Especially if you are using chicken breasts, boil chicken for at least an hour until they are well done.

  2. Step 2
    Remove with tongs
     
    Remove with tongs

    Using tongs, carefully take your chicken pieces, one at a time, out of the pot of boiling water and place on a plate or cutting board. Leave the boiling water on the stove over medium high heat.

  3. Step 3
    Flake with fork

    Using the one fork to hold the chicken piece, take the other fork and use it to shred the chicken piece. Continue to shred each one of the chicken pieces and put the shredded chicken back into the pot of boiling water.

  4. Step 4
    Flatten biscuits
     
    Flatten biscuits

    Continue to boil shredded chicken while you are preparing the easy to make dumplings. Open a can of biscuits and one at a time, flatten the biscuit with your fingers.

    Cut in half

    With a sharp knife, cut the flatten biscuit in half.

  6. Step 6
    Drop in biscuit halves
     
    Drop in biscuit halves

    Carefully drop each biscuit half into the pot of boiling water and chicken.

  7. Step 7
    Biscuits become dumplings
     
    Biscuits become dumplings

    Biscuits will puff up while cooking. After cooking a little while, they biscuits will flatten a bit to form dumplings.

  8. Step 8
    Reheat in microwave
     
    Reheat in microwave

    Enjoy your home made chicken and dumplings. These chicken and dumplings make excellent leftovers. Just reheat in the microwave. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

on 11/14/2008 A lot easier than my grandmother's dumplings, that's for sure. A lot less clean up,too. I'll have to try this new-fangled "dumpling" to see how it stands up, lol! Good article, good pictures and very clear instructions. Very nicely done.
