Ripened Bananas
Ripened Bananas

Ever find your banana skins getting brown spots and the inside is too soft for putting the bananas on your favorite cereal? Well don't throw them away. Here are some ways of storing them and ways of how to use them later.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ripened bananas
  • plate
  • freezer bag
  1. Step 1

When you find the bananas turning brown with spots and are soft to the touch, you can place them, with the skins on, directly into the refrigerator to keep them for another 2 to 3 days. The skin will turn dark brown all over, but that is okay, as the inside will still be good to use. It is best to put a plate under them, as they may begin to sweat after a couple of days. The bananas should be used before they sweat.

  2. Step 2

If you are not ready to use the ripe bananas within a couple of days, then peel them first and then place the bananas into a freezer bag to place them in your freezer. They will keep there for several months.

  3. Step 3

Whether you put them in the refrigerator or in the freezer, they can be used in baking banana bread, cake or muffins. Ripe bananas are full of great flavor and mash easily for different recipes. If they are frozen, you will want to defrost them first for baking. The frozen ripe bananas can be put directly into smoothies and daiquiris without defrosting.
