Step 1
Decide whether you'd like a large or a small hypoallergenic dog. Some hypoallergenic dogs are medium sized, too.
-
Step 2
Visit your local animal shelter and ask if they have any hypoallergenic dogs. Specifically, you'll want to know if they have an Aierdale Terrier, a Yorkshire Terrier, an Australian Shepherd, a Barbet, a basenji, a Bedlington Terrier, a Bergmasco, a Bicho Frise, a Bolognese, a Border Terrier, a Bouvier des Flandres, a Cairn Terrier, a Coton de Tulear, a Dandie Dinmont Terrier, a Fox Terrier (wire) a Greyhound, a Goldendoodle, a Havanese, a Water Spaniel, a Kerry Blue Terrier, a Lagotto Romagnolo, a Lhasa Apso, a Maltese, a Peruvian Inca Orchid, a no hair Poodle and Poodle Hybrid, a Portugese Water Dog, a Puli, a Samoyed, Schnauzers of all sizes, a Scottish Terrier, a Shih Tzu, a Silky Terrier, a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier or a West Highland White Terrier.
-
Step 3
Spend a few hours with the dog you're planning to purchase and make sure that your allergies aren't bothered by this particular breed.
-
Step 4
Evaluate your home to see if the dog you've chosen is appropriate. For example, if you have collectible knick knacks all over the place, a big tail-wagging dog might not be the best choice. You'll want to opt for a dog that can navigate through obstacles without breaking them.
