Things You'll Need:
- Mechanic's toolset, including a full socket set, wrenches and screwdrivers
- Torque wrench
- Ball joint separator
- Replacement parts
-
Step 1
Make sure the vehicle is completely cool. Disconnect the battery ground and then isolate it to avoid accidental contact with the terminal during this procedure.
-
Step 2
Put the vehicle on a rack or raise the front of the vehicle on supports. Verify the security of the supports. Remove the front wheels and tires.
-
Step 3
Loosen the fasteners that hold the ends of the sway bar. Remove the nuts and bolts from the brackets.
-
Step 4
Take the stabilizer (sway) bar from the vehicle. Take care not to catch the bar on any proximate cables.
-
Step 1
Set the new stabilizer bar in place. Finger-tighten the bolts to the brackets.
-
Step 2
Install the fasteners to the outer ends of the stabilizer bar. Tighten the nuts by hand. Be sure to position the washer collars away from the bushings with the cone-shaped side of the bushings oriented toward the washers.
-
Step 3
Install the front wheels. Lower the vehicle from the supports and bounce it several times to allow it to stabilize.
-
Step 4
Torque the nuts to 18 foot pounds. Connect the battery cable to the terminal. Test drive the vehicle to verify proper steering and handling.
